KnowledgeTree Now Available in Professional and Open Source Editions

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, PRNewswire/ -- KnowledgeTree, the world's leading commercial open source document management system, today announced the release of its Professional Edition, a certified, easy to install version that extends the KnowledgeTree Open Source feature set and is shipped with commercial support.

Features include powerful document metadata management and versioning, sophisticated authoring management and workflow, full-text indexing and search and extended reporting functionality.

The KnowledgeTree Integration Server and KnowledgeTree Client Tools for Windows, both shipped with the product, vastly improve the ergonomics of document management by providing familiar Windows(R) Explorer and Microsoft(R) Office(R) interfaces into the document repository.

''The Microsoft Office integration features provide KnowledgeTree menus inside commonly used applications like Word and Excel,'' says Daniel Chalef of KnowledgeTree developers Jam Warehouse. ''This makes using the system very convenient and so users are far less likely to 'forget' to use the system. It's also easy to install and costs far less to implement than proprietary competitors.''

KnowledgeTree Professional also provides priority support (within two business days) via an online customer portal.

KnowledgeTree Professional 1.0 is based on KnowledgeTree Open Source 3.0.2. KnowledgeTree runs on the well-known and widely implemented Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) stack, which is far thinner than proprietary and open source competitors, making for low infrastructure requirements and reduced capital expenditure.

The new KnowledgeTree Stack Installer, shipped with KnowledgeTree Professional, includes Apache, MySQL, PHP and 3rd party indexing products for trouble-free installations. ''There is no longer any need to coax different and often esoteric combinations of Apache, MySQL and PHP to work together,'' says Chalef.

KnowledgeTree Open Source 3.0.2 is now also optionally available as a Stack Installer, allowing open source users to very easily install the application. The Stack Installers are available for both Windows and Linux.
